How Can Being Selfish Benefit a Life Insurance Advisor?

The life of a Canadian life insurance advisor can be a busy one. You run your own business, and by translation that means you are the head of marketing, branding, training, communication, client relationships and sales.

Some of the benefits of APEXA include remediating and streamlining a lot of an advisor’s day-to-day work. In addition to running your own business, you are keeping current with the changing markets, economic trends, evolving products and maintaining your advisor educational requirements. To which you can still add record keeping for all your clients and your own licenses, renewals and E&O. Do you have staff? If so, add hiring and people-management to the repertoire of tasks you carry out every day.

How do you best serve your clients? Being professional, prepared, knowledgeable, informed and accurate. How is that selfish? The answer is simple. Your biggest asset is YOU. That means in order to meet all the commitments of your demanding job, you have to be the best possible you.

So Be Selfish!

1) Invest in your skills. Take time for courses, seminars, reading and self-improvement. Check out these underwriting E-Learning modules that will educate you in the Underwriting process which in turn means better client service and faster commissions!

2) Rest.
We all need down time. A good night’s sleep, family time and time away from work help you recover from the daily demands of running your business.  A rested mind is clear and more efficient.

3) Exercise. Something we all need, and yes it too takes time. An active lifestyle results in a healthier you.  Exercise has different positive outcomes for different people. It may allow you to sleep better, de-stress, increases endorphins, or simply promote better overall health. These benefits allow you to be better at your job.

4) Healthy Eating. Today’s research has identified various brain foods. These foods provide energy that your brain needs, the essential fatty acids that are key to brain function and a healthy heart. Certain fruits and seeds (i.e., blueberries, blackberries, avocados, tomatoes and pumpkin seeds) provide the vitamins, minerals and elements that have been linked to mental agility, improved thinking, help in prevention of cognitive decline, increased memory, cognitive function and brainpower.

So Be Selfish – treat yourself to the things that make you the best person and best business owner you can be. After all, you are the one running the show! Investing in your skills, resting and exercising all take time, however, they result in improved efficiencies and can be great for your business.
