Hi, I’m Debbie Van Kruistum, and I joined the APEXA team as a Document Validation Specialist in June of 2018.

My journey to APEXA

After completing a few university courses and college bookkeeping courses, I worked as a health and dental claims approver for London Life for 4 years. After this, I did the bookkeeping for our family construction business. From 2000-2018 I worked as a Finance Manager for a long-term care home.  My primary role included Payroll, Financial reports and provincial Ministry of Health Reports. In 2018 when I semi-retired, I was looking for a less stressful job. A family member told me about a position open at APEXA as a document validator, so I applied for it and got the job. It is indeed a good fit for me.

What I do in APEXA

My role as a document validator is primarily validating licenses, E&O insurance coverage, corporate documents and banking documents for insurance advisors and corporations. I also do quality audits of validation work performed by others on the team, in order to promote accuracy and client satisfaction.  We have a great team and I find my role very rewarding.

My go-to productivity trick

I am an early riser (5am) and like to spend time with my coffee reflecting (Bible reading/prayer) and then a workout which is either walking or weights. Getting outside in the early morning is my favorite workout and is such an energy booster! I usually start work by 7:30 and like following this routine for productivity.

If it’s particularly busy at work, I will use priority lists. Also, accuracy is very important to me, so I always double check my work.

My dream skill

I just started playing golf and my dream skill is to be somewhat good consistently.

Away from work, you can find me here

Outside of work you will find me hanging out with my grandchildren, children and close friends. I love to go to the beach and sit there with a good book.
