The AODA requires that organizations in Ontario must follow standards to become more accessible and to remove barriers that limit the things people with disabilities can do, the places they can go and the attributes of service providers toward them. All levels of government, private sector businesses (including Apexa), and non-profits must comply with AODA. Ontario’s goal is for the province to be fully accessible by 2025. As an organization doing business in Ontario, it is essential that APEXA work to be compliant with both this legislation and timeline.
Over the past year, we have made several changes to update our platform to improve accessibility. While not all the changes made are obvious to the naked eye, you may have noticed we changed certain colors and modified the appearance of text to make the information on the site easier to read. We also removed placeholder text in search boxes on some screens. These adjustments make it easier for those with vision impairments to view our site and to avoid confusion for those using e-readers or assistive devices. Many other updates were made behind the scenes to help users with assistive devices accurately recognize data fields and the type of data needed, read and understand error messages and correctly interpret when new pages or windows are opened. All of these are important changes to help ensure APEXA is an inclusive experience for all our users, including those with disabilities.
Compliance with AODA is an ongoing effort. As our platform continues to evolve, we will continue strive for an accessible experience for all our users.
